What is Kybella, exactly?
Kybella is an injectable treatment that we offer at Restore SD Plastic Surgery to treat small stubborn areas of fat. Despite being a healthy weight, many of us have certain areas that don’t ever quite slim down to the ideal contour. Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, breaks down the fat cells in those pockets so that your body can then flush the fat cells out. The results are permanent if you remain at a stable weight and due to the inflammatory effect of the fat cells breaking down, there is a certain degree of skin tightening.
Remind me why to use it?
Introduced in 2015, Kybella was FDA approved for reducing submental fat. Dubbed “liposuction in a syringe”, it created the opportunity for a non-surgical means of tackling that irritating double chin with a series of in-office treatments. It is popular for the under the neck but can also be used to treat small areas elsewhere on the body.
Popular off-label areas that can be treated with a quick lunch-time visit are:
- Armpit pooches or front bra roll
- Bra strap bulges or back bra fat
- Inside the knee rolls
- Lower buttock rolls or thigh banana rolls
What’s the downtime?
Kybella is an in-office procedure that takes less than an hour per treatment area. There are some immediate redness and swelling that can take a few days to subside. For optimum results, Kybella is performed in a series of treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The first treatment is usually the worst in terms of swelling – most areas are completely treated with 2-3 treatments.
How much does it cost?
Kybella is usually charged per vial. Most patients use 2-4 vials per treatment. The cost of Kybella at Restore SD Plastic surgery is $600/vial. At Restore SD Plastic surgeon your treatment is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon – we are familiar with the anatomy and have the experience to help you achieve your results.
