Achieve Your Ideal Look With a Breast Augmentation

Whether you are recovering from a mastectomy, fighting the effects of age, or simply have always struggled to feel comfortable with the size or shape of your breasts, breast augmentation might be the solution you’ve been looking for. This is just one of many great services offered at Restore SD Plastic Surgery in San Diego, California.

Whatever your personal beauty ideal may be, this customizable procedure can provide the results that you desire. There is no reason not to enjoy the natural-looking, beautiful bustline you’ve been dreaming of.

What Does Breast Augmentation Offer?

Breast augmentation is beneficial for a number of reasons. There are four primary ways that augmentation of the breasts can improve the look and feel of your bustline. In the sections below, we will discuss each of these benefits and how they might appeal to you as you consider undergoing this life-changing procedure.

Fullness

Everyone knows that breasts come in a variety of sizes and shapes. While there is no set standard for beauty, some women prefer a more full bust. Having a full bustline is a traditionally feminine feature that many women want. Specially made bras, low-cut tops, and double-sided tape are some of the ways that women might try to create the illusion of a much fuller breast size, but there is another solution.

If you are self-conscious about the fullness of your breasts, augmentation might present a viable solution. Using various implant types, positioning, and profile sculpting, your surgeon can help you achieve the full look you have been wishing for.

Balance

A woman’s overall body shape relies strongly on the balance of her curves. A woman with wider set hips might find that her smaller bust gives her a triangle or pear shape. While this is not an unsightly look, it might not be the preference of the individual.

Enhancing the breasts can create a better balance between the upper and lower curves of a woman’s silhouette, giving a more hourglass type figure. Augmentation of the breasts can create the kind of subtle change needed in the bustline to even it out with the waist.

Symmetry

Most women have breasts that are two different sizes. It is not uncommon at all for the left breast to be up to a full size smaller or larger than the right. While this is a pretty typical physical characteristic, it does create a sense of discomfort for some. It is not unusual for a woman to feel uncomfortable undressing in front of a partner or dressing in a low-cut blouse when her breasts are of uneven sizes.

If this sounds like you, you might find the solution to your problem by undergoing an augmentation procedure. Breast augmentation can help even out the symmetry of the breasts. This includes evening out different sized areolas or uneven nipples.

Confidence

If you have struggled with a lack of self-esteem due to your body symmetry, breast size or shape, or the fullness of your breasts, undergoing this procedure can improve your confidence and help you feel better in your own skin.

Studies have shown that a lack of self-confidence can impact other parts of our lives. This includes difficulty with social situations, feeling close to partners, or even succeeding in your career. If you feel as if your confidence would benefit from a bustline augmentation, you should not hesitate to schedule a consultation.

Implant Types

There are two primary types of implants that are used in this procedure. Each of these implant types offers its own rewards and will be used for varying purposes. Different implants are made of different materials and are used to correct a number of shaping and firmness issues in regard to the breasts. Below, we will discuss each of these implant types and under which circumstances they should be used.

Silicone Gel Implants

Silicone gel implants are made with an outer silicone shell that has silicone gel inside of it. The consistency of gel implants can vary to provide a softer, more natural feel or a firmer look, depending on the desires of the client.

They also come in a number of different sizes and are an ideal choice for improving balance and symmetry. These implants are a little more firm in feel than other options but are completely safe and reliable as an option for natural-feeling breasts.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater and are made of an outer silicone shell. These implants have gained popularity in the plastic surgery world because they are generally believed to be the safest and most comfortable option. Many patients who have friends or family with prior experience with saline implants request them for themselves because of the reputation they have earned in the industry.

Incision Location

Like the rest of your procedure, the location of your incision will be discussed between you and your surgeon prior to the procedure. This decision will be made based on your personal preference and the recommendation of your surgeon in regard to the best possible outcome in terms of appearance, pain, and healing.

As a general rule, incisions will be placed in inconspicuous places in order to minimize the visibility of any scarring. Any of the following incisions may be used:

Intramammary Incision

The inframammary incision is an incision along the breast crease where the underside of the breast meets the skin of the upper abdominal area. In short, the location of this incision will be in the crease of the underside of the breast. This is the most common place for an incision, particularly when working with larger implant sizes. The width of the incision will be short, and in most cases, it will not spread across the full crease.

Periareolar Incision

The periareolar incision goes around the lower half of the nipple-areolar complex. This will result in minimal visible scarring that will be less apparent than an inframammary incision. It is a good choice for most surgeries using saline implants or smaller, more subtle changes to the shape of the breast. In most cases, any scarring created from this incision will be completely unnoticeable due to the coloring of the areola.

Implant Position

The positioning of your implant will have a major impact on the results of your breast augmentation procedure. The positioning of the implants will be determined during your consultations with your surgeon to suit both the ultimate goals of safety and your aesthetic preferences.

There are two places in which the implants may be positioned. These are over the muscle and under the muscle.

Under the Muscle Implants

Under the muscle implants occur when the upper part of the breast implant is placed beneath the muscle of the chest. The lower part of the implant is then tucked under the glandular tissue of the natural breast. This technique will provide a more natural slope to the breasts with a realistic appearance. This is an ideal choice for patients who are thin and have only a small amount of natural breast tissue.

Over the Muscle Implants

Over the muscle implants are when the implant is positioned beneath the glandular tissue and over the chest muscle. This is the best method for providing a natural appearance for women who have a moderate or more amount of breast tissue already.

Vectra XT 3D Imaging System

Vectra XT 3D imaging system is a state-of-the-art system that allows a patient to see simulated results to find the implant best suited to their body. This system will be used by you and your plastic surgeon to gain a better understanding of your current body and breast shape and type as well as what kind of implants will best suit your augmentation needs.

Things to Know about Breast Augmentation

As you prepare to schedule your consultation, you will no doubt have questions about what to expect from the procedure. At your consultation, your physician will go over your medical history and any medications you may be taking. This will help them better understand where you are in regard to your health and your individual needs in a surgical care plan.

To help you better understand the timeline of treatment as well as some of the most common concerns, we have outlined a few important topics here.

Recovery & Healing

Most patients are able to return to work within one or two weeks of their procedure. You should also be able to get back to your regular exercise routine after roughly a month without issue.

To minimize discomfort during the healing time, you will be required to wear a special support bra for the first several weeks. This will be provided for you by the surgery team and will help to reduce swelling, as well.

Most discomfort from your surgery will be gone within a few days. Anesthetics will be provided to you during and after the surgery to help minimize discomfort during the healing process.

Cost

The cost of augmentation surgery will depend on the type of implant used, technique, and a variety of other factors like surgical fees, anesthesia, and facility fees. A detailed quote will be provided to you after your consultation when all options have been discussed and agreed upon. If budgeting is a concern, there are finance options available for qualified candidates. You can also ask the care team about these options during your consultation.

Healing

After you have fully recovered from your surgery, the well-placed incisions will hardly be noticeable. Scarring does take up to a year to fully heal and mature, but your surgical team will be in touch throughout the healing process to ensure that the final result of this process is minimally visible.

Some things you can do to help will be avoiding sunlight to the affected areas, using scar cream, and following the advice of your doctor in regards to proper hydration and care post-surgery.
