In search of good news for 2020? This spring Galderma announced that Kysse™™, their newest filler, was approved for use in the lips in the United States. Pronounced “kiss” this latest addition to their well-established collection of fillers is a game-changer for those of us coveting full Kardashian style lips without the stiff “duck lip” look. Let’s take a look at what makes this filler so sought after and whether it is a good fit for you.
Kysse™ comes to America!
On April 9th the FDA approved the much anticipated Restylane Kysse™ for the United States.
Kysse™ has been approved for use in Europe for a few years now, so those of us who stay interested and involved in ongoing clinical education have the tips and knowledge to put this innovative technology to use. The XpresHAn (“expression”) technology alters how the critical ingredient, hyaluronic acid, binds. It is bound to itself in a way that stretches and rebounds – molding to your lips for an integrated feel and look of plush natural looking lips. In the clinical studies for approval, the filler lasts longer, requires less product then the control filler for similar results and has a high rate of patient and partner satisfaction.
So what’s the big deal with Kysse™?
When hyaluronic fillers were first introduced to the market ( and we said goodbye to lumpy collagen injections) the lips were a natural place to use them. But because the mouth is in nearly constant motion, and the key ingredient, hyaluronic acid breaks down over time with movement, most lip fillers only last 6 months. This can be expensive to maintain at $650-$750 a syringe. When you consider some patients were using more than a syringe at a time to get the results they desired it became a pricey proposition. Let’s break down why those of us in the industry are so excited about this new option.
Longer Lasting Fillers
Galderma’s Kysse™ demonstrates a longevity that is currently not matched by other fillers approved for lips. During the multi-center trials some patients noted their results lasted for up to a year! That means less frequent injections to the kisser allowing you to spare some volumizing for other areas of your face or give your wallet a break.
A Little Goes a Long Way
Even better the clinical trials showed that less filler was needed to provide fuller lips than the competitor. In the approval study, only 1.82cc of Kysse™ filler was used versus 2.24cc of the competitor to establish fuller looking lips as judged by independent observers. That is definitely more bang for your buck. Most patients at Restore SD Plastic Surgery are able to achieve their goals with 1 cc or less.
Express Yourself
The same innovations that create longer lasting lips is what provides the natural look for this filler. Using patented ExpresHAn technology the hyaluronic acid binds to itself so that it moves when your lips move. In the clinical trials it was also noted to be less palpable and due to its unique nature, patients didn’t notice or feel lumps. Because Kyses is designed to integrate for expression in motion your lips look and feel natural even when you smile, speak or kiss.
Everyone Loves the Look
The studies showed that over 90% of patients were satisfied with the look and shape of their lips at 8 weeks. Interestingly, Galderma also polled patients’ partners. Many women are reluctant to volumize their lips because they are concerned that their partners will hate the “fake” look. In this trial, not only did the women love their look, so did their loved ones.
Will the injection of Restylane Kysse™ hurt?
At Restore SD Plastic Surgery we use a combination of techniques to minimize discomfort with all injections. This can include ice and numbing cream. And there is lidocaine, a local anesthetic, formulated in Restylane Kysse™ that keeps the discomfort to a minimum.
Is there swelling with Restylane Kysse™?
Swelling can vary from person to person. This can be due to many factors to include the type of filler, injection technique and post injection care. However, the amount of swelling that accompanies Kysse™ is less than other lip fillers so that you achieve your final results in a few days.
How much does Restylane Kysse™ cost?
The cost of a syringe of filler can vary depending on the brand. Other Restylane and Juvederm fillers we carry range from $650-$900 for a syringe. Kysse™ is priced similarly and we encourage you to sign up for our email list or follow us on social media to be in the know when we have special promotions.
