How do I know if I have heavy eyelids?
Do you look in the mirror and always think you look tired or angry? If so, you may be experiencing excess upper eyelid skin, commonly known as having heavy eyelids. For some it is genetics, for others the natural aging process, but excess upper eyelid skin can dramatically affect the way you feel about yourself and can affect your self-confidence. For both men and women, maintaining the competitive edge at work often depends on looking your best and making excellent first impressions.
Can heavy eyelids affect other areas of my face?
There are different degrees of heavy eyelids that range from very mild to extra skin spilling over the eyelashes and weighing down the upper eyelid. Because it takes muscle strength and energy to hold up this heavy extra skin, many people who have heavy eyelids experience eyelid fatigue with noticeable difficulty reading in the evening or a decrease of the upper visual fields. These functional and/or aesthetic issues lead many patients to seek an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty).
How can I correct heavy eyelids?
Treating heavy eyelids can be accomplished alone or as part of a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation program. In the simplest form, excess upper eyelid skin can be removed as an isolated procedure called blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia in the office or under general anesthesia depending on your comfort level. The recovery time to look normal is generally 10-14 days and your friends and colleagues often can’t tell you had anything done but will comment on how well-rested and refreshed you look.
“I recently had surgery at Restore. I had several procedures performed. I contacted Restore for a consultation. The consultation is what convinced me to use Restore. I had several other consultations and none compared to Restore SD. There was no hard sales pitch or recommendation to have a procedure done that was more than what was needed. At Restore the office staff is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. The surgical staff was beyond wonderful. This wasn’t my first experience with plastic surgery and by far Restore has been the best. Dr. Gallus is amazing. She listens to your needs, makes sure you understand what she is able to do and address’ all of your concerns. I am six weeks post op and am looking forward to seeing the complete results at the end of six months. I highly recommend Restore SD.”

What if my eyelids alone are not the only issue?
If you have a heavy brow in addition to heavy upper eyelids, adding a brow lift to the eyelid lift yields excellent results and enhances the refreshed look. Although surgery is the mainstay of treatment for a heavy brow and upper eyelid skin, optimizing the results with a maintenance program of medical-grade skin care and Botox® will keep you looking your best long after your surgical incisions have healed.
