When they first step into our office, many people don’t realize that you can combine multiple plastic surgery procedures. Our patients do it all the time! Common combinations like breast augmentation with lift, or tummy tuck with liposuction, are just the beginning of the possibilities. A two-in-one can bring many benefits, including a quicker overall recovery, fine-tuned results, and the satisfaction of reaching multiple beauty goals at once.
If you’re curious, here are a few things you need to know to decide whether or not a combined procedure could be a fit for you.
- Breast surgery + body contouring
- Mix-&-match with liposuction
- Why consider a combination
- Calculating recovery time
- Safety comes first
Breast surgery + body contouring are a perfect pair
Getting a breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift? Perhaps the most frequently requested plastic surgery combination is breast surgery with a body contouring procedure. Breast surgeries we offer at our San Diego plastic surgery practice include:
- Breast augmentation with breast implants (augmentation mammoplasty)
- Breast augmentation with lift
- Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty)
- Breast lift (mastopexy)
- Breast implant revision
- Breast implant removal
- Breast asymmetry correction
- Fat grafting to the breasts
If you have body #goals, too, chances are that we can help you achieve the snatched figure or smooth curves of your dreams within the same operation. Here are the body contouring procedures that you may be able to safely combine with a breast plastic surgery:
- Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
- Brazilian butt lift with fat transfer to the buttocks (gluteoplasty)
- Liposuction (lipoplasty)
- Thigh lift
- Arm lift
- Labiaplasty
Liposuction is the most popular mix-&-match cosmetic surgery
Here in San Diego, liposuction is the #1 choice of procedure to combine with another plastic surgery. Liposuction is the most effective way to reduce a stubborn, diet- and exercise-resistant pocket of fat just about anywhere on the body. Patients who come in, for example, for a breast lift, may end up deciding to add customized liposuction in the place where it matters most to “tweak” their body shape or figure (“mini lipo” is actually a thing, and we love it).
Further, Dr. Gallus combines liposuction with surgeries like facelift, tummy tuck, and thigh lift on the regular! It’s an important part of her tool kit for achieving truly stellar, 360-degree results with these plastic surgeries. Many patients come to their consultation not expecting to get a procedure “combination,” but learn that it’s the most ideal, modern technique to achieve natural looking results for their face or body.
The benefits: check off multiple beauty goals & consolidate recovery
Wondering what’s the point of combining plastic surgery? While you can always space out procedures (and we would love to see you for a second procedure at our gorgeous La Jolla office!), combining plastic surgery can save you a lot of time. You will already be planning a visit to our accredited surgical facility, going under general anesthesia, and have plans made for recovery. Your body will be working hard to heal during your recovery, and adding a second procedure typically will not increase the overall downtime above that of the most extensive procedure in your plastic surgery combo. (Your body is amazing, right?)
Calculate your recovery based on the most extensive procedure in the mix
So how long WILL recovery take? It depends on the most extensive procedure in your treatment plan. Here are 5 popular procedure combinations based on Dr. Gallus’ patients, with the more extensive procedure bolded—that’s the one you’ll use to calculate your recovery time:
- Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and liposuction
- Arm lift and liposuction
- Breast augmentation and breast lift
- Liposuction and Renuvion® skin tightening
- Facelift and fat grafting
For many patients (i.e. mommy makeover patients), the most extensive procedure is a tummy tuck, which requires about two weeks away from your normal routine and a gradual return to normal from there. If you undergo a combination of, say, breast augmentation and liposuction, your recovery will resemble that of breast augmentation—about 4-7 days away from work, then a gradual return to normal from there, with scar care to help minimize their appearance.
We’ve made it easy to estimate your recovery from different procedures: check out our recovery calculator, and plug in a few different procedures with your goal “Look Great Date” to see what you can expect!
