Transcript
Hi everyone! I’m Dr. Katerina Gallus with Restore SD Plastic Surgery. Today, I’m excited to introduce our new weight loss injection program featuring GLP-1s. These injections are game-changers for individuals looking to achieve meaningful and sustainable weight loss. We understand how challenging losing weight can be, which is why we brought these injectables into our practice to provide the extra support you need to reach your goals and feel more confident in your skin.
GLP-1 type medications are powerful tools that work by reducing your appetite and helping you feel fuller for longer, making it easier to manage your weight. These treatments have shown significant results in helping people lose weight when combined with healthy lifestyle changes. Our patients are seeing results within 3 to 6 months of starting treatment, with sustainable outcomes if you follow our guidelines and lose approximately 1 to 2 pounds per week.
These weight loss injections are ideal for adults with a BMI over 30, or those with a BMI over 27 with weight-related issues. During your consultation, we’ll assess your health and goals to determine if the program is the right fit for you. Once approved, you’ll receive weekly injections and ongoing support from our team to help you succeed. We’re also excited to offer instructions on self-administering the injection, allowing you to complete it comfortably at home.
If you’re ready to start your weight loss journey with our expert guidance, we’re here to help. Contact us today to schedule a consultation for these injections and learn more about how we can help you reach your goal weight. I look forward to seeing you at Restore SD Plastic Surgery!

What are GLP-1 Agonists?
GLP-1 type medications mimic a natural hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) which regulates appetite and food intake. Originally developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, they have been approved by the FDA for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight conditions with related health issues. These medications help regulate your appetite, improve your metabolism and lead to sustainable weight loss.
How Do GLP-1 Medications Work?
GLP-1 injections work by:
- Reducing Appetite: It helps reduce hunger by acting on appetite centers in the brain.
- Slowing Gastric Emptying: It slows down the rate at which food leaves the stomach, promoting a feeling of fullness.
- Enhancing Insulin Secretion: It helps improve blood sugar control, which is often an issue in individuals with obesity.
Benefits
- Significant, clinically proven weight loss
- Reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease
- Non-surgical, once-weekly injection
- Personalized dosing — not a one-size-fits-all approach
- Physician-supervised by a board-certified plastic surgeon
- Built-in path to body contouring if needed after weight loss
Best candidates for GLP-1 weight loss injections
GLP-1 type medications are suitable for adults who:
- Have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher (obesity)
- Have a BMI of 27 or higher (overweight) with at least one weight-related condition, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.
- Struggle with obesity or overweight conditions.
- Have unsuccessfully achieved weight loss with diet and exercise.
- Desire an FDA-approved, well-tolerated non-surgical weight loss treatment

Who Should Not Use GLP-1 Medications
These medications are not appropriate for patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2). Candidacy is determined during your screening with our team.

What to Expect with our Medical Weight Loss Program
Initial Consultation
Once you call our office and speak with our patient care coordinator, you will be instructed on the next steps and scheduled for a call with our nurse Danielle. She will review the guidelines and ensure you are a good candidate. You will then be scheduled for a consultation with our weight loss team. Then, our medical team will review your medical history, conduct necessary assessments, and discuss your weight management goals. We will offer specific guidance on how to prepare for your weight loss journey, and you can receive the medication and start your personalized plan at your consultation.
Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on your individual needs, we will create a personalized treatment plan. This plan includes GLP-1 injections, lifestyle modifications, dietary guidance, and regular follow-ups to monitor your progress. Your treatment will begin with a simple injection regimen administered in the office, where we walk you through it, so you’re able to administer the following injections yourself from the comfort of your home. Our team will monitor and track your progress at regular check-ins and tailor your medication as you reach your goals.
Danielle is a Registered Nurse with a BSN from the University of Alabama and a background that spans emergency medicine, travel nursing, outpatient surgery, cosmetic treatments, and IV hydration therapy.
Danielle handles every step of your weight loss program between your initial screening call and your monthly check-ins with Dr. Gallus. She’s thorough, she’s easy to talk to, and she’ll keep you on track.

Side Effects & Results
Common Side Effects
The most common side effect is mild nausea, especially in the first few weeks. Most patients manage it easily by staying hydrated, eating smaller portions, and not pushing past fullness. If nausea persists, Dr. Gallus can adjust your dose. GI side effects typically improve as your body adjusts.

What Patients Experience
- Food noise decreases—many patients forget to eat or need reminders
- Cravings for alcohol and sugary foods often decreases
- Weight loss of 1–2 lbs/week is typical; losing too fast increases loose skin risk
- Some patients notice sagging skin after significant weight loss—this can be addressed with surgical or non-surgical procedures if desired
Maintaining Your Results
GLP-1 medications are a powerful tool, not a replacement for lifestyle changes. Dr. Gallus recommends staying active throughout your program—continuing to work out helps preserve muscle and reinforces the results you’re earning. When you’re ready to taper off, she’ll guide you through a gradual dose reduction rather than stopping abruptly.
GLP-1 Weight Loss & Plastic Surgery: The Restore SD Advantage
Meaningful weight loss (even 20 to 40 pounds) can leave patients with loose skin on the abdomen, arms, and thighs, and changes in breast volume and shape. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gallus can address all of it. That continuity of care is something no telehealth service or standalone weight loss clinic can offer.
Using GLP-1s to Prepare for Surgery
GLP-1 medications can help patients reach a surgical goal weight or meet insurance BMI requirements before procedures like breast reduction. Dr. Gallus recommends being within 15 pounds of your goal weight before a tummy tuck — losing more afterward can leave new laxity.
GLP-1s & Surgical Timing
Because these medications slow gastric emptying, they must be paused before any surgery. Our anesthesiologist requires a minimum of two weeks off prior to your procedure. Dr. Gallus also recommends staying off them for two weeks post-op to ensure your body has the nutrition it needs to heal. Protein intake is especially critical — we’ll make sure you’re optimized before and after your procedure.
